Old copy of the original Dutch and French disc version of this game. No tweaks applied, just the original copied disc version. Can be directly played from the files, no installation was ever needed and there never was DRM attached. Language can be selected through START.exe.
On modern systems, this very old DirectDraw-based game has a few issues:
- Stretches to widescreen instead of the original 4:3 format.
- The game boots to a complete black screen (when started from Start.exe, its launcher)
- The game crashes after a few seconds of booting the game (when staring the game directly from LEG6.exe, the game's main executable)
- The cursor glitches by clipping out a bit while moving the cursor.
- The game has major stutters in the main menus and in the levels.
Steps to get this working on modern Windows (tested on Windows 11 23H2 on Nvidia GPU):
- Unpack the archive I provided of the game to a location of choice.
- Download DDrawCompat: https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat/releases and unpack its component (ddraw.dll) into the directory you extracted the game to. Tested with DDrawCompat version 0.5.3. "DDrawCompat is a DLL wrapper aimed at fixing compatibility and performance issues for games based on DirectDraw and Direct3D 1-7. There is no API conversion involved." I use it to fix the cursor clipping issue, the issue of the game stretching (now with this fix in the intended non-stretched 4:3 format) and the issue of the game stuttering.
- Unpack the non-debug zip-archive of DDrawCompat into the game's folder.
- Set both START.exe and LEG6.exe to "Windows 98" compatibility mode. This fixes the game crashing or black screening when using the launcher to launch the game, but also needed for LEG6.exe as otherwise the game crashes to desktop when using DDrawCompat.
- Have fun, all issues should be fixed now!
